At the start of March 2020, the British government told the public that a new coronavirus was doing the rounds. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his chief science advisors insisted that the illness would be mild for the vast majority, including the vast majority of elderly people. The public were advised to carry on as normal, to wash their hands more often, and to self-isolate if unwell.

By the end of March, Britain had been plunged into a surreal nightmare, the entire country placed under lockdown, with further needless and deranged Covid restrictions to follow during the next two years. This book is about how the coronapanic debacle happened. Irvine tells the scandalous real story, which politicians and journalists have tried to bury. It is a story of media fearmongering, mass hysteria, union unrest and government capitulations. Only by being honest about what happened can we hold all the culprits accountable, and avoid a repeat.
